Trader Joe's Egg Bites vs Starbucks egg bites

We decided to compare Trader Joe's Egg Bites with the Starbucks Egg Bites head-to-head. For the review, we picked up Starbucks Bites in the drive-thru, then dashed home to heat up the Trader Joe's Egg Bites.

Trader Joe's bites are cheddar cheese and uncured bacon, while Starbucks are bacon and Gruyere. For comparison, Starbucks also come two in a pack and cost $4.95. Both are gluten-free.

Both bites pack a protein punch, with Trader Joe's Egg Bites coming in at grams of 16 protein and Starbucks Egg Bites at 19 grams. Cottage cheese gives a boost to the protein content for both versions.

At first glance, the Trader Joe's version are slightly bigger and flatter. The Starbucks bites have a somewhat rounded top.

Trader Joe's Egg Bites Review

She says (Bridget): While I like the Trader Joe's Egg Bites, they're not as good as the Starbucks version. The bacon in the Starbucks bites is crispy, while the bacon in the TJ's one is soft. Starbucks egg bites have a magical, fluffy texture that the Trader Joe's bites can't match. The biggest takeaway for me, though, is that the Trader Joe's Egg Bites have a distinct onion flavor. Sure enough, there's onion and garlic powder on the ingredient list. I wish they would have left that out...just gimme that bacon and cheese goodness, please. And really, cheddar can't beat Gruyere.
Overall rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars
(I'd give the Starbucks Egg Bites 5 stars)

Mark said that since I'm the "egg bite aficionado," he'd leave the review to me. He wanted me to note that he LIKED the garlic/egg flavor of the Trader Joe's bites.

Will we buy them again? Possibly to have onhand for a quick lunch.

They both taste good but Trader Joe’s wins my vote because they don’t contain some of the nasty chemical additives that the Starbucks egg bites have such as carrageenan and maltodextrin, both which can damage the gut.
